Art Demands Attention

Is art forever?
"You carry paintings back and forth
Lost ones and acquisitions;
And while shifting them from left to right
What remains despite? - Withering images!"
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Writings on Art. 1861

In 1986 a world famous painting was destroyed. With a knife, a man slit open Barnett Newman’s painting Who’s Afraid of Red, Yellow and Blue III. This act lasted mere seconds, yet, the restoration of the picture needed four years.
The causes of the destruction of works of art are usually less spectacular. Pictures get damaged without anyone having to grab a knife. Mostly they occur through the simple, daily effects of transportation, direct sunlight or climate changes.
The Renate Kant studio for conservation and restoration is a restoration studio for private and public art collections, auction houses and art dealers. Located in Singapore, it is situated conveniently in the “arts hub” of Southeast Asia. The Studio offers a program which is unique in Southeast Asia for its range and quality:

• Competent conservation and restoration of artworks on paper and
paintings - on canvas as well as on board and on paper
• Conservation framing with non-acidic museum quality materials
• Qualified use of traditional techniques and sound knowledge of the
history of Asian art
• Proficient employment of modern techniques – microscopic
research, ultraviolet technology, chemical and physical analysis of
paint and binding material
• Valuable contacts with European research laboratories and
specialists
• Informed damage prevention through special Art Care Programs
suited to the climatic conditions of Southeast Asia
• Advice for private and public investors
• Instruction for art collectors, gallery owners and museum and
auction house staff

Founded in 1978 and providing services in Asia for the past 18 years, the Renate Kant studio was the first independent conservation and restoration studio in Singapore. Known for its high quality professional standards and ethical conservation services, the Renate Kant brand is the mark of excellence and refinement.
Our task at the Renate Kant studio for conservation and restoration is to restore paintings with proficiency and competence. Above all, we try to make sure that damage and loss of value do not occur: through consultations and public presentations we inform all who work with art how pictures should be safely kept, cared for and transported. Most cases of damage can be avoided by specific prevention.
