Professional consulting

If you collect or deal in art, if you are a museum employee, or if you paint yourself, the Renate Kant studio for conservation and restoration is an address you should be familiar with. We help you to maintain and protect your paintings and artworks on paper. We can teach you how to avoid damage and slow down the aging process.

With us, you learn all that is important in handling a work of art:
• How you should hang and store paintings and artworks on paper
• How you can prevent mould and insect damage
• How you can avoid damage from ultraviolet rays and climate
changes
• How you can transport works of art and avoid mechanical damage,
dents and rips
• How you can prevent damage which could arise through
unprofessional treatment
• How you can stop existing damage from spreading
• How a painter should construct the frame so that the painting
material can contract and expand
• How a painting or artwork on paper should be framed to prevent
damages
• To what a painter should pay attention while grounding the canvas
and applying the colors, so that the painting material adheres in the
optional way
• Professional handling of a painting

We invite you to contact us to arrange an appointment for consultation at our studio. We will do a thorough examination of your art works in order to offer the best advice for how to proceed. This usually will take 1-3 days, after which we will send you a Condition Report and a Quotation for conservation or restoration.

We can also come directly to your residence or office to do a brief examination of your art works for an extra fee which will be waived upon confirmation of a treatment, but it may be insufficient to determine the measures to be taken without using the equipment and materials at the studio. Once you approve the treatment proposal, we will proceed with the conservation process upon receipt of a 50% down payment. We also provide consultation on framing as well as professional conservation framing services using acid-free conservation materials.

When you visit the studio we can show you a wide variety of high standard frame samples and mattings to choose from.If required to research the authenticity, age or origin of the artwork, specific analysis can be undertaken such as microscopic research, ultraviolet technology, and chemical and physical analysis of paint and binding agents. The tests are conducted under the code of ethics and standards of the international conservation associations.
