Art Demands Attention Is art forever? "You carry paintings back and forth Lost ones and acquisitions; And while shifting them from left to right What remains despite? - Withering images!"
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Writings on Art. 1861
In 1986 a world famous painting was destroyed. With a knife, a man slit open Barnett Newman’s painting Who’s Afraid of Red, Yellow and Blue III. This act lasted mere seconds, yet, the restoration of the picture needed four years. The causes of the destruction of works of art are usually less spectacular. Pictures get damaged without anyone having to grab a knife. Mostly they occur through the simple, daily effects of transportation, direct sunlight or climate changes. The Renate Kant studio for conservation and restoration is a restoration studio for private and public art collections, auction houses and art dealers. Located in Singapore, it is situated conveniently in the “arts hub” of Southeast Asia. The Studio offers a program which is unique in Southeast Asia for its range and quality: Our task at the Renate Kant studio for conservation and restoration is to restore paintings with proficiency and competence. Above all, we try to make sure that damage and loss of value do not occur: through consultations and public presentations we inform all who work with art how pictures should be safely kept, cared for and transported. Most cases of damage can be avoided by specific prevention. |
